Ashok Leyland John Deere Construction Equipment Private Ltd. is an Indian-based joint venture between Ashok Leyland and John Deere. Based in Chennai, India, the company was set up in 2009, with production to begin in 2010.
Products were announced to be marketed under the Ashok Leyland-John Deere brand, and also as John Deere and Ashok Leyland. It will manufacture backhoes and wheel loaders. The first product off the line is a backhoe loader under the brand Leyland Deere. Ramp-up and production was slow, and never grew by much. In 2016, Ashok Leyland announced plans to exit the joint venture to help reduce debt.
