Asia Motor Works Ltd (AMW) is an Indian firm of truck manufacturers & Auto Components based in Bhuj, the main town of Kutch. AMW won the NDTV CV of the Year award 2008 at the Auto Expo held at New Delhi.[1]

Company historyEdit

Founded in the year 2002, AMW specialises in design and manufacture of high tonnage vehicles on a hybrid platform. AMW has entered into collaborative partnerships with pioneering component suppliers like Cummins, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, First Automotive Group Corporation, Valeo and Meritor, and has produced India's first global truck series: 4923 TR and 2523 TP.[2]

AMW has a state-of-the-art fully integrated manufacturing facility spread over 8,50,000 sq mts. in Bhuj.The facility houses advanced production units having presses from world leaders like Schuler, etc. The sprawling facility comprises an advanced Assembly plant, Steel Stamping Press, Chassis Rolling plant, Fabrication unit, Paint Shop, Crash Barrier manufacturing unit and Wheel Rim manufacturing unit.[2]

It is in the process of rolling out a nationwide sales service and spares network, comprising 30 Main Dealers and 450 sub dealers. These centres cover most of the major highways like the Golden Quadrilateral, North-South Corridor & East-West Corridor.

All key components of the Global Truck are sourced from global leaders like Cummins (Engines), ZF (Gear boxes), Valeo (Clutch plates) and Meritor (Axles). Qualified design experts at the AMW R&D centre integrate this global expertise into the Global Truck. The modern AMW manufacturing facility at Bhuj has been designed keeping current demands and future trends in mind. In addition to the core modules, the facility also houses a crash barrier unit conforming to international standards and a Wheel Rim Plant catering to diverse auto segments in line to become World's largest Wheel Rim plant at a Single location.

The first AMW trucks on the Indian roads are the 4923 Tractor and 2523 Tipper. These trucks are robust and powerful, they are specifically designed for Indian conditions.[3]

Asia Motor Works is headed by Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka who is the Managing Director & CEO since the companies inception in 2002. Under his leadership, the company has expanded from a purely India-centric company to a company with global focus.

  • The Plant has a capacity to produce 50,000 commercial vehicles per annum and is expected to cater to the whole of Indian market taking advantage of the excise duty and other tax concessions.[4]
