Construcciones Agrometálicas de Levante, S. A. (or CALSA) is one of the lesser known Spanish heavy engineering specialist in producing earthmovers the small firm was another tractor and loader manufacturer founded in 1960 in Zaragoza, Spain. It was purchased by Tenneco in 1980, the then-owner of J.I. Case. The CALSA company also supplied and made finished parts for both the local crane manufacturers named IASA and IBESA. After the Tenneco company bought Calsa their factory was geared up and reorganized by larger American CASE so by 1990 the Calsa name was no longer around and production ended, but was quickly restarted now under the name of the CASE who soon relaunched their own new 1990s Model Range some of them inspired from Calsa 4X4 ideas. With standard 4WD axles and the drivetrain mechanicals employed by Calsa for all their models were mainly ENASA supplied by the same owners of the heavy vehicle specialist PEGASO of Barajas near Madrid, who are since 1994 under the ownership of the Italian IVECO Group. These Calsa models were essentially aimed for the Spanish Agriculture, Construction and for Mining Industries and many of their models were exported to France also. During the 1970s another powerplant option that Calsa models were offered with was Barreiros diesel truck running gear as they were also involved in farm tractors and lorries manufacturing and were based in Villaverde near Madrid. After the company was acquired by CASE the Americans closed the Zaragoza CALSA factory and revamped all their premises and turned them into a brabd-new CASE Earthmover & Tractor factory in 1990 bringing the end for CALSA of 30 years of machinery manufacturing business.
