Charles H. Roe Ltd. was a Yorkshire coachbuilding company. It was reformed in 1923 (after the original 1921 company failed) based at Crossgates Carriage Works, in Leeds.[1] Then in 1947 was taken over by Park Royal Vehicles. Then two years later along with parent company Park Royal Vehicles, they became part of Associated Commercial Vehicles (ACV) in 1949, which was merged with Leyland Motors Ltd in 1962. The Charles H. Roe company closed in 1984. In the following year, a group of employees from the former business, supported by Yorkshire Enterprise Ltd, (a Government / EEC funded development agency) began the Optare coachbuilding business in the former Roe carriage works.
