[edit] History

On the first weekend in August 1970, a small group of enthusiasts gathered in the village of Cromford in Derbyshire with Steam engines, which they had restored and preserved. They had no idea that their gathering would grow into an annual event that was to become one of the biggest in the North Midlands.

Within a few years of that modest start, the gathering grew into a much larger celebration of a bygone age. As well as the original steam engines, which were the main attraction, other collectors of old cars and lorries joined in, along with some tractor enthusiasts with some older farming machinery. Over the next few years the rally also added models and miniature steam engines as well as stationary engines, rural crafts.

As the rally grew the local charities benefited from the growing visitor numbers. The rally is organised by volunteers, and a few years ago had to move from the site at Cromford to a new site a few miles away.

[edit] 39th Rally 2009

The 2009 rally was postponed from the 1st August till the 3rd weekend in September due to the high rainfall the week prior making the site unavailable due to the very wet ground conditions in some areas & more bad weather predicted for the show weekend.

Unfortunately the main Editor of Tractor Wiki was unable to attend the new date, so has no photos from the 2009 event.

Please add any information & photos from the event if you have attended to build up the list of restored machines and attendances at events.
