The Komatsu 930E is an 300 ton plus capacity Ultra Class off-highway hauler built by Komatsu.

History

It was the first Ultra Class off-highway hauler built introduced May 1995 at a rated payload capacity of 310 tons.[1] It was upgraded to 320 tons with the addition of larger tires thru the 930-2 and 930-3 models. In 1996 it was upgraded up to 320 ton via Bridgestone 50-80R57 tires. All of the Komatsu electric drive haulers are made at the former WABCO hauler plant located in Peoria, Illinois, USA. This plant is located at 2300 NE Adams St in Peoria.[2][3]

The Komatsu 930E is notable for being one of the largest models of trucks ever manufactured.[2][4]

Komatsu 960E

On May 27, 2008, Komatsu announced an even bigger off-highway hauler called the 960E.[5] This new hauler is 3,500/3,346 hp powered by a SSDA18V170 diesel engine. Fully loaded the 960E weighs 576 metric tons. Pictures of the 960E were shown at Dhsdiecast.com in June 2005 before just under 3 years of intensive testing. This 360 ton was also shown at Komatsu exhibit at MINExpo International 2008 in Las Vegas,Nevada from September 22–24.

As of 2004 Komatsu had manufactured 300 model 930E trucks. According to the June 2008 Coal Age magazine, more than 650 930Es have been sold.[6]

Komatsu also manufactures the Komatsu 830E, using similar technology, but with a dump body capacity of only 231,000 kilograms.[7]
