Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is a multi-faceted company involved in many different areas of business in India. Larsen & Toubro was founded in Mumbai in 1938 by two Danish engineers, Henning Holck-Larsen and Søren Kristian Toubro. As parts of the business, in 1997, L&T established a 50-50 joint venture with John Deere to manufacture tractors in India, called L&T - John Deere. L&T sold their interest to John Deere in 2005.
In 1998, L&T established L&T-Case Construction with CNH Global as a 50-50 joint venture to build backhoes. Also in 1998, L&T converted their hydraulic excavator business into a joint venture with Komatsu, called L&T-Komatsu.
L&T had previously had a License/JV deal with Poclain of France to build Poclain designs in India. (Poclain later being taken over by Case of the USA).[1]
L&T were also agents for Caterpillar in India during the 19 ?.[2]
