Mahindra Gujarat Tractor, acquired by Mahindra & Mahindra from the Government of Gujarat, India in 1999, is the oldest running tractor unit in India. The Mahindra Group has a 60% stake and the balance (40%) is with the state Government of Gujarat.

The company began in 1959 as Tractors and Bulldozers Private Ltd and imported tractors. Manufacturing of tractors began in 1963, in collaboration with Motokov-Praha (Zetor) of Czechoslovakia,[1] and was known as Hindustan Tractors & Bulldozers Ltd. The tractors were based on the Zetor tractor design and sold under the Hindustan brand. In 1967, it became Hindustan Tractors Ltd. In 1978, the Gujarat, Indian government formed Gujarat Tractors from the ailing company.[2]

Originally founded in as Gujarat Tractors Ltd, in Vishwamitri, Vadodara, Gujarat, India in 1963 in cooperation with Motokov-Praha (Zetor) of Czechoslovakia,[3] the tractors were based on the Zetor tractor design and sold under the Hindustan brand.

More recently, the tractors are sold under the Shaktimaan brand in the 30-60 hp range.[4]

Trakstar[]

Template:See Trakstar In 2017, Mahindra Gujarat was renamed Gromax Agri Equipment (GAEL), and the tractors were relaunched under the Trakstar brand.
